Snapshot: Italy on a plate

Today was buffet service, and some dishes suffered more than others from the steam table treatment. The gnocchi, especially–poor things clumped together for dear life. But they were still the most delicious part of the menu to me, and not because my partner and I made them. Well, not just because we did. Tender, delicate morsels with ever so slight a bite, bathed in sizzling sage butter. Now that’s why.

From L to R, starting at the top: pork braised in milk, Sicilian braciole (stuffed beef flanks braised in a tomato sauce), game hens braised in white wine and herbs, sauteed broccoli rabe, vegetable risotto,  one precious gnocchi, and rabbit ragu with pappardelle in the center.
